Modal Chord Project

For this project we had to use modal chord progressions. I started off by writing my chord progression using the Poizone channel with the ARP Wild Thing ToTc preset. My progression is just 1 2 3 in the key of B flat. I then matched the progression with a synth and Slayer. After that I decided to write my drum part. I wanted to keep it slow for the beginning. I also wrote my bass part. For the bass part I was inspired by the Holst song we are playing in band. I wanted 3 completely different sections with the same melody in each (except I didn't change the bass melody). After I wrote a clearer melody using Sytrus with the Fat preset. In the third section of the song for my modal chord progression I used the SYN PoizoneString preset in Poizone. For this my progression was 1 5 3 2. For the second section I left the modal chords out but at the end I brought back the arpeggio dropped an octave. For the 2nd section I wanted it to be more uplifting and fast. For the third I wanted to make it really slow. I then wanted to bring back the first section but use the drums from the second to keep it higher paced.

  1. I liked the ending better than the beginning. the arpeggio theme that starts the piece gets very repetitive- :45 seconds of that is a bit much. Consider leaving a bit of space between repeats of that part. Same thing applies for the two note riff that takes over at :45. space in between repeats breaks up the monotony.
You chord progression is great. Nice voice leading, and good harmonic direction.
