Final Thoughts

Throughout the year of music tech I learned a lot. I learned the true importance of bass in a song and how to use many tools to help improve my work. I think I improved significantly since the beginning of the year and had a lot of fun throughout the year. I'm looking forward to next year.

Grady's Don't Bully Rap

For this project I had to use Pitcher. Pitcher is basically an autotuner. For the vocals I had Ms. Grady, the guidance counselor, sing and I autotuned her. I had to cut each word out individually because she was off beat. For the synths in the background I used Sytrus Synth 2, Fl Slayer Bass Punch, Poizone Bas Creamy MC, LED Brassatas TC, Sytrus Classic, Sytrus Sytrus. For this song I wanted a lot of bass to make it seem almost dubstep like.

Grady Rap

Significant progress is being made on the Grady Rap, only one class left to finish hopefully I'll work quick! It's proven to be tricky with her rushing in her rapping but I've worked around it.

Bonus

Due to my confusion on Pitcher the song I was working on will not work with it. There for this is more of a bonus track per se. Comment if you'd like me to explain my work on this song if not work on the Grady rap starts now.

Progress

For the next project we have to use Pitcher. So far I've almost finished writing my song I just need to touch up some areas and then I'll start to begin on Pitcher. The song has a techno feel but as most of my songs do, it has a breakdown. It ends with one of the heaviest breakdowns I've written yet.

Modal Chord Project

For this project we had to use modal chord progressions. I started off by writing my chord progression using the Poizone channel with the ARP Wild Thing ToTc preset. My progression is just 1 2 3 in the key of B flat. I then matched the progression with a synth and Slayer. After that I decided to write my drum part. I wanted to keep it slow for the beginning. I also wrote my bass part. For the bass part I was inspired by the Holst song we are playing in band. I wanted 3 completely different sections with the same melody in each (except I didn't change the bass melody). After I wrote a clearer melody using Sytrus with the Fat preset. In the third section of the song for my modal chord progression I used the SYN PoizoneString preset in Poizone. For this my progression was 1 5 3 2. For the second section I left the modal chords out but at the end I brought back the arpeggio dropped an octave. For the 2nd section I wanted it to be more uplifting and fast. For the third I wanted to make it really slow. I then wanted to bring back the first section but use the drums from the second to keep it higher paced.

New Project

For the next project we have to use Modal Chord Progressions. Ive got some done using Poizone synths and Slayer Bass. Has a different sound then my usual songs but it should be good or at least interesting.

Issues Final

For this project I had to remix the song Issues by the band Escape The Fate. I started off by cutting out the drums and using Edison to cut out the chorus guitar because i didn't like the sound of it. I then decided to write my drum part for the whole song. After that I wrote a chord progression using the Orchestral 2 preset for Sytrus. I made a bunch of little synth parts using Poizone (KBD Cut Short ToTc and KBD Play Staccato ToTc) and using the echo bottles preset on Sytrus. I also made my own bass part using Bass Punch in FL Slayer. Overall for the song I found it hard to come up with good synth parts and I also didn't enjoy the key its in but all and all I'm happy with the final outcome

Issues Progress

As of today (April 6th) Issues is pretty much done. Sadly due to computer problems I was unable to access my files and post it. Also due to the fact I will be absent on Friday Issues won't be posted until next Tuesday. The circumstances fit the title well.

Progress

I have been working on the remix for Issues by the band Escape The Fate. Due to filming previews, mcas, and lack of class time little progress has been made. So far I've used a few synths all from poizone. Writing has proven to be an issue (ha music pun) due to the fact its in B minor.

ADSR

For this project I had to use the Poizone channel and use attack delay sustain and release. For the presets I used SYN BrassAss TC and gave it a slow attack. I also used SYN The Grudge ToTc, BAS BigUnison TC, and LED Powerful Pulse ToTc. For the writing process of this song I wanted to do it in a different way then usual. Rather then give each sound a big intense part I made them simple but that flowed and sounded good together. I thought of making it like that while listening to the music we are doing in band. I also have to give credit for the intro drums to Chris Darroch for showing me how to cut the bass pedal up so it could go faster.

Poizone Project 2 Progress

New Poizone project is coming along nicely. Ive so far used 4 poizone synths and will probably use more. So far it has an interesting sound and I'm pretty excited for the final sound.

Poizone

In this project I had to use the poizone channel. I started off by editing my main Poizone sound. I changed the noise setting greatly so it'd sound more distorted. After that I wrote the drum part for the intro. I then wrote out the melody using the original Poizone sound I designed and wrote the remaining drum part along with it. After that I wrote out the bass part, this time i wanted to make the bass part a little more intense then usual. For it I used the BASS PUNCH preset in slayer. I then wanted a weird synth sound to go over everything, so I used acid 3 in sytrus. I decided that I needed more Poizone so I picked a setting to go over the intro, I chose ARP Ozrical TC. I also wanted to add accents on the 2 and 4 beats so I used the Syn Phaz TC setting in Poizone. For the sound of the song I wanted a harder sound but to have some techno mixed in.

Progress

This week I started to work on a project using poizone. So far I've used poizone for the main riff and plan on using it for more. I've written the main riff the drums and a synth part. I'm starting to work on the bass now and an ending.

SVF and XY Modulation in Sytrus

For this project I had to use SVF setting and use XY modulation in the sytrus channel. I started by designing the sound I wanted in sytrus. After that was done I started to write the melody. For this song unlike most songs I make I decided to make it slower. I also wanted to use more bass. For the bass I used the BASS PUNCH preset in FL Slayer. I doubled it in the mid section so the riff could be heard better. For the guitar I used the basic settings in Fl Slayer. For the chorus I used CHR_HEAVEN_C6.

Frequency Modulation in Sytrus

For this project using sytrus I had to make 4 different synths. To make the synths I just followed the instructions and added the chorus using CHR_HEAVEN_6 and the bass using FL slayer with the preset of BASS punch . For the main riff I used the synth part of the song Dogs Can Grow Beards All Over by the band The Devil Wears Prada. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6aNV_xKSto) I then wrote the bass and accompany parts in myself that would make it seem creepy. I also wanted to have good drums as always. I also used an automation clip on the frequency cutoff for one of the supporting synths.
